The idea of an indentation that would hold the spoon inside the jar allowing the honey to run from the spoon back down the inside of the jar. Another advantage of the indentation was that if you put the spoon horizontally at the top of the jar, the overflowing honey would stop at the indentation, leaving the underside of the indentation and your hands honey-free. The jar is a standard one that you can easily grab and hold with one hand.
